TEARS OF MAGDALENA: gothic metal from Finland

Tears of Magdalena: Let me tell you the story how the great adventure began.....

It was early in 2006 when I, your humble narrator Vassago met Magdalena. It wasn´t just friendship but also a big love story and during these days we decided to found the band. We thought it would be wonderful to join my throat voice with Magdalenas dramatic soprano voice and make brilliant powerful melodic gothic / fantasy metal.

Magdalena, who is 1st founder of the band, is also the main-composer, keyboardist, violinist & vocalist in the band. She has about 34 years of experience as a musician. She started to play the violin & piano very early in her childhood and she also started to sing around that time. Her mother noticed how talented she was and put her in a music school at the same time she began normal school. She had her first big concerts in front of an audience as a child.

She graduated from the classic academy in Moscow as a music teacher and continued her studies in the Sibelius academy in Helsinki. She is actually a professional violin-virtuoso but she also has studied classical singing 20 years and she is still studying it. She has three personal teachers from different countries: Anna Karlsson (Finnish National Opera, Helsinki), professor Juri Statnik (Bolshoi-Theatre, Moscow) and professor Irina Gavrilovici (Vienna, Milano, Bucarest).

I, Vassago have sung & made lyrics in different bands in the past and I make the lyrics in this band too. I´m the 2nd founder of this band and I am also the throat vocalist in it. Me and Magdalena spent almost a year planning our music & style and we started making the first drafts of our songs at that time. It took us a lot of time to find good musicians and a place for practising but finally we found Peuge "Cannonball", our drummer, who also found a practising place for us.

Peuge, our drummer has a lot of experience of playing the drums. He is an important member of our band and he arranges Magdalenas drafts for dark & heavy metal.

Very soon after finding Peuge we also found our guitarist & bass player - Tomi, who has a lot of experience as the musician too. He also composes and arranges the songs with Peuge and Magdalena.

So what the hell - the band was complete and it was time to start the real working... That started finally in the beginning of 2007. I came up with our band name "Tears Of Magdalena" at that time. The name describes Magdalenas composing work born inside her sensitive and emotional heart.
